Judy Reyes, star of ‘Devious Maids,’ says the show ‘turns the stereotype on its ear’

(PIX11) — Judy Reyes, a star on the hit new show, “Devious Maids,” gives a inside look at the concept of the show and the dynamic of the characters in it.

Reyes is best known for her portrayal of nurse Carla Espinosa on the TV comedy “Scrubs.” Reyes was recently nominated for a Imagen award for her work on the film, “Gun Hill Road.”

In her interview, Reyes talks to the concern of some viewers, of the stereotype that the show may be playing up by casting Latina women as maids.

She said that, “What Eva Langoria and Marc Cherry did is take these five Latina actresses and turn the stereotype on its ear, by casting five Latinas and giving them the opportunity to play multi-dimensional characters.”
