Family, friends, and fans bid farewell to ‘Sopranos’ actor James Gandolfini at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in Morningside Heights Thursday morning.
The funeral services for New Jersey native Gandolfini were public, and thousands of fans lined up for hours for the opportunity to pay their respects to the actor.
A private wake was held yesterday for Gandolfini in Park Ridge, New Jersey, where he attended high school.
Many of Gandolfini’s “Sopranos” costars were visibly in tears as they filed into the grand cathedral for the services.
“We lost a nice guy. He was a good soul. He was a great actor, a great guy,” Tony Sirico, who played Paulie Walnuts on the “Sopranos,” told reporters outside the funeral.
The services ended close to 11 a.m.
