Add diabetes drug maker Novo Nordisk to the list of companies that have distanced themselves from Paula Deen in the widening fallout over her use of the N-word.
According to the Associated Press Novo Nordisk said it and Deen have “mutually agreed to suspend our patient education activities for now.” She has been promoting the company’s drug Victoza for a year. Deen, who has Type 2 diabetes, says she uses Victoza and has made appearances promoting the drug.
Earlier this week, companies such as Target, Walmart, and Smithfield Foods severed ties with Deen.
“Once the merchandise is sold out, we will not be replenishing inventory,” said Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman told the Associated Press.
Deen also lost her gig on the Food Network, when the channel decided not to renew her contract.
The Southern cuisine maven has repeatedly stated in interviews that she is not racist, but has been unable to contain the crisis.
