JERICHO (PIX11) — The eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were reopened Friday morning after a serious car crash involving one vehicle shut them down for nearly 3 hours, authorities said.
The crash happened just after 4 a.m. at exit 42 in Jericho.
As police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, reports say the vehicle appeared to have veered off the road after bouncing off the center divider. It came to a stop on the right shoulder.
The injuries of the driver are described as serious.
The LIE looked more like a parking lot as the morning commute got underway Friday morning, as residual delays from the closures lingered.
