NEW YORK (PIX11) – Update 8:07 pm: The George Washington Bus Station has reopened after it was evacuated following a camper fire on the bridge’s lower level Thursday evening.
All but one New Jersey-bound lane are now open after the mobile home caught fire around 5 p.m., snarling traffic on the GW Bridge.
The charred RV is being removed from the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Update 7:00 pm: Two of the three previously closed lanes on the outbound upper level of the bridge have reopened. Traffic delay is approximately 60 minutes. The bus terminal still remains closed. For more updates, check the The Port Authority’s Alerts and Advisories.
Update 5:04 pm: The FDNY is evacuating the bus terminal at the George Washington Bridge due to smoke from a truck fire on the bridge.
The Port Authority Police say the fire is out and that there have been no injuries. The vehicle that caught fire in the tunnel under the apartments, on the approach to the bridge.
Traffic has been severely impacted as the outbound upper level of the bridge is closed because of the blaze.
