BROOKLYN (PIX11) – Police arrested a man they believe fatally stabbed a livery cab driver in Brooklyn last Thursday.

The driver, Uro Ama Orji, 54, died after a male passenger attacked him with an umbrella, driving the pointed end into his eye.

Orji’s 2000 Mercury crashed into several parked cars before coming to rest near the intersection of Lott Ave. and Thomas Boyland St.  Paramedics took him to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

After witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman running from the car, officers arrested Brooklyn resident Allen Shamel, 28.  He has been charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

His female companion has not been identified.

The NYPD was offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the umbrella-wielding thug, along with another $2,000 from Crime Stoppers for his arrest and indictment.
