The main takeaway from this storm is not widespread damage across our region, but pockets of serious flooding — including problem areas like Meadow Lane in Lawrence, Long Island.
Neighbors tells PIX11 the woman who owns this car drove into floodwater she couldn’t get out of and had to be rescued through her sunroof.
Resident Sam Shore said, “The cars stall all the time, they come down there, if no one blocks them off, they come down the block constantly. We’ve complained to the village, we’ve complained constantly. They need to do something about the drainage systems, and no one’s ever done anything.”
In the village of Island Park — not far from Long Beach — too much rain simply fell too quickly — overpowering the drainage system and flooding nearby street and basements.
