Maxwell’s, a well-known bar and rock club in Hoboken, is about to play its final set.
Co-owner Todd Abramson says the lease for the bar is up in July, and while the venue was offered a lease that wasn’t ‘necessarily onerous,” Abramson decided not to sign up again, given how the neighborhood has changed, he told the Star Ledger. Abramson says the venue’s last day will be July 31.
“After much thought, given the changing nature of Hoboken and the difficulties of trying to run a business in this town, we decided it was time,” the newspaper quoted Abramson as saying.
Maxwell’s has been around for decades as the leading rock venue in Hoboken.
The club has seen artist such as Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen perform.
