“There will be 60-90 minute delays:” This is what riders heard for most of the afternoon at the train station in Mineola after three LIRR trains were involved in a crash Tuesday.

Commuters experienced 60 to 90 minute delays coming from the Hicksville station, where at 11am the three Long Island Railroad work cars collided on one of the track west of the station.

“We just heard a loud crash,” said John Stein, the Assistant Chief Fire Marshal of Nassau County.  He added that the accident happened about 20 feet from their building.

“We were literally over through fence and through through fence as the trains came to a stop”

Five LIRR workers were injured and train service, suspended in both directions.

Back in Mineola, riders were frustrated with continuing delays following the accident.
