New York has raised the penalties if you are caught texting while driving.

The new laws went into effect Saturday.

If you are caught in the act you will now get ticketed as if you were speeding and 5 points on your license.

If you are caught a second time — your license will be suspended for 60 days.

These penalties apply to any form of cell phone use while driving so put the phones down and keep your eyes on the road.
