Security at the Statue of Liberty is sparking a fight between New York and the federal government.

Senator Charles Shumer and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly are denouncing  a plan that they say leaves a dangerous hole in the city’s security net.

Their concern centers on a plan to move the screening of ferry passengers from Battery Park and Liberty Park to Ellis Island.

Schumer and Kelly say this leaves the ferries vulnerable to attack and they want extra money for screenings before people get on the boats.
