A section of Eighth Avenue was closed for nearly six hours Friday following the vicious stabbing death of a man near a Chelsea porn shop.
Detectives and cops in uniform hunted for evidence including a murder weapon along Eighth Avenue between 26th and 27th streets, and as far east as Seventh Avenue, following the slaying of a 28-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released.
Sources say the incident may have been the result of an ongoing dispute between the two men. Cops say the victim was stabbed in the stomach.
Cops say they got the call just before 2 a.m. and when they arrived they found the man seriously wounded and down near the shop at 27th Street and Eighth Avenue.
He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mohammed Ibrahim says he was sleeping in his cab when someone woke him up.
“He banged on my window. He said, ‘please call 911.'” Ibrahim said. The man pointed down under his driver’s side window: “I saw somebody laying on the ground bleeding.” Ibrahim said.
Witness Kevin Williams told PIX11 News: ” I heard a lot of arguing outside the store. When I came outside I saw a person laying on the floor. He wasn’t moving.”
Williams added: “He looked like he had been stabbed in the neck.”
