A police officer has been charged with arson and attempted murder for allegedly setting fire to the Edison police captain’s home in Monroe Township, according to police and the Middlesex County prosecutor.

Officer Michael A. Dotro, 36, was arrested at his home in Manalapan and charged Thursday after an investigation of the May 20th fire at Edison Police Capt. Mark Anderko’s home.

Firefighters were called at 3:59 a.m. to the blaze, and extinguished it within 10 to 15 minutes, according to authorities.

Anderko was home at the time with his wife, two children and 92-year-old mother – no one was injured.

Dotro, a nine-year veteran, is being held on $5 million bail.
