(NEWARK) – “Hi I’m Mayor Booker and I am thrilled to welcome you all,” he always is.
A day with Newark Mayor Cory Booker seems to never end, “I can run 20 hour days right now.”
It can best be described as a political mosaic comprised of policy, initiative, innovation, and a stubborn bomb scare.
There is nothing more to cram in, as Booker describes it “my life is adventure enough.”
PIX 11 News was granted unprecedented access to arguably the nation’s most hands-on Mayor to see Newark through his eyes. For Booker, “The story of the city is very compelling to people.” It’s a story he’s about to sell as prepares to embark on a run for U.S. Senate. When asked if he is running for U.S. Senate, he says “I’m exploring the option.”
When asked, “Is Cory Booker running for U.S. Senate the worst kept secret in New Jersey?” Booker laughs out loud and says, “That is a better way to do it. Listen I can’t play coy, the reality is I’m focused on finishing my job and I’m looking to run for the U.S. Senate.”
During the nearly fifteen hours that PIX 11 News spent with Mayor Booker and his staff, the 44-year-old weighed-in on a number of topics. They ranged from debating Chris Christie, to poking “sweet” jabs at his mentor New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to describing his perfect woman… in Spanish.
The intimate coverage from the moment he begins his day to ending provides a glimpse as to how Booker is approaching what will be his final 18 months in office.
