NEW YORK (PIX11)–  As detectives continue working the scene in Hempstead we are now learning more about the victim, Hofstra student Andrea Rebello and the suspect Dalton Smith.

Smith was on parole and had a long rap sheet.

Sources tell our Wally Zeins, a former NYPD Detective Sergeant, that this was no random home invasion, “my source tells me they knew each other.”

Around 2:30 Friday morning Police say Smith entered the home a ski mask covered his face, armed with a gun

It’s still unclear who fired the fatal shot that killed Rebello, she was a twin. Her sister Jessica was also in the house, a third woman and a man.

Another fact in this case, the suspect allowed the third woman to leave and go get money, she called 911. Wally questions who does that? Who lets a victim leave to go get money and come back.

While the details are still being worked out Rebello’s parents have to plan for a funeral set for Wednesday instead of a graduation celebration for one of their daughters.

The sisters were inseparable even had identical cars, now a part of a crime scene that tore them apart.

Student at the campus said ” they were both great, I was shock to hear that this happened.”

Today off campus students were too distraught to talk.
