NEW YORK (PIX11)- A section of the waterfront park on the Lower East Side opened on Saturday. It allowed visitors to get an up-close and personal view as the redevelopment of the pier is underway.
From 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. visitors were able to enjoy the Idea City Festival. The festival included activities, education about ecology and art projects.
Along with family fun, there are newly installed picnic tables so park-goers could really enjoy the east river waterfront in a leisurely way.
On July 20th summer programming and design installations will be unveiled.
In 2011 city lawmakers announced the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation will be redeveloping the pier.
