NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island (PIX11) – Nassau County officials are beefing up security for the Long Island marathon weekend, as officials say extra security is needed in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.
To protect the public, high-tech equipment will be used to detect radiation, K-9 units will be brought in, and there will be an increased police presence. There will also be no bags allowed at the finish line.
“The event will look very different from past events,” said Nassau County Executive Ed Manango.
Manango estimates the extra security will cost around $250,000.
