Family of slain officer awarded Congressional Badge of Bravery

SEAFORD, New York (PIX 11) – A special ceremony was held on Long Island for a police officer killed during a drug store robbery.

Last year ATF Special Agent John Capano visited the pharmacy to pick up cancer medicine for his elderly father. While he was there — a man was trying to rob the place at gunpoint.

Capano jumped into action and was shot trying to take down the suspect.

The Congressional Badge of Bravery was presented to his family.

“The Congressional Badge of Bravery is Congress’ recognition, as well as all of our recognition, paying tribute to the enduring undying honor exuded by John, and the heroism left in his wake,” said John Adler, the president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer’s Association

The suspect was killed in the shootout.
