WASHINGTON (PIX11)- President Obama put the jokes on hold at the White House Correspondents’ dinner on Saturday night to reflect on tragedies that affected the nation over the past couple of weeks.
Towards the end of his speech the president honored those affected by the bombings in Boston, the Texas fertilizer explosion and the flooding in the Mid-West.
The president then thanked the first responders and journalists.
He challenged the attitude that newspapers are dying by shouting out The Boston Globe for their impeccable coverage and hard work during and after the double bombings.
The room exploded in applause, backing the president’s statement.
