Reading, writing — and sex? A Queens teacher will be in the courtroom instead of the classroom now that he has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a former student who is only 14 years old.
36-year-old Daniel Reilly was arrested at I.S. 237 in Flushing Monday afternoon. He is accused of having sex with the girl during a relationship that started when she was just 13.
Reilly taught the girl when she was in elementary school, and he later transferred to I.S. 237 where he taught sixth grade English, the Queens District attorney says. Police say the assaults happened on school grounds. Reilly started sending the girl text messages last August and they soon began an eight-month consensual relationship according to the D.A.
Outside the school parent Connie Chen told PIX11: “It’s ridiculous. I can’t believe this. I think it’s terrible.” But she added ” I think most teachers, they’re all good . I think this is just a single case.”
The teacher was busted after the girl’s sister saw text messages and told her parents, who contacted the school, authorities said. Reilly faces 12 counts of rape as well as charges of endangering the welfare of a child. He was expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
