A day for the history books. The New York Yankees taking on the Boston Red Sox and the Mets at Citifield battling the San Diego Padres at the exact same time. The first time both New York teams played on the same opening day in New York.
“Out of nowhere, I think they can do it,” said fan Lynn Rapkiewicz.
And they did. The Mets triumphed over the Padres while the Yankees bombed.
Don’t ever count an underdog out.
At both stadiums, there was a moment of silence for the victims in Newtown and Hurricane Sandy.
“It’s baseball season here, but still alot of work to be done” said firefighter Phil Pillet. Pillet was one of the first responders honored at Citi Field.
Mets fans already feel like a winning team. They’re hoping their new captain, Third baseman David Wright takes them all the way.
“When you have the young players that are really hungry…leader on the field,” said Rapkiewicz.
