NEW YORK (PIX11)- Recently back from back from his mission in Rome to elect a new pope, Cardinal Dolan celebrated Easter mass with his flock at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
“Were glad you’re here. Thank you so very much,” Dolan said.
Worshipers observing the holiest day on the Christian calendar couldn’t help but notice the massive scaffolding obscuring much of the beauty of the majestic cathedral.
It’s undergoing $175 million worth of repairs and restoration.
The cardinal is taking full advantage; using the aging landmark as a tool to teach the meaning of Easter. As he hinted at a changing church, “The cathedral, Jesus we ourselves and even the church, the church with a capital C is undergoing renewal, restoration, repair, resurrection always is but I think we’re seeing it today in a particularly fresh new way with our beloved new holy father, Pope Francis.”
Church goers say the message of the day was hard to miss; re-imaging the church inside and out.
