JACKSON, NJ (PIX11) – Some college students traded their bikinis for tool belts this spring break–and they were rewarded with some quality fist pumping time with the cast of the Jersey Shore.

Fifty college students from across the country teamed up with the United Way for MTV’s Alternative Spring Break. They spent the week at the jersey shore, the rockaways, staten island and long beach rebuilding sandy ravished homes.

“I can’t express with words what a week it’s been between me and all the people i’ve met that believe they can change the world,” said Eric Dolan, a student participating in the event.

Students who spoke with PIX11 said it was a rewarding, but heartbreaking experience. Garden City native and Adelphi freshman, kaitlin, was assigned to long beach.

“We went to boardwalk one day and it was completely gone it was hardest thing for me to see,” she said.

The students spent seven days slaving away in the cold, and today they were rewarded with a party for the ages–celebrating with the cast of The Jersey Shore at Six Flags.

“It takes a lot for someone who is in college to give up spring break,” said Jenni “JWoww” Farley.

“I plan to go help during the summer and hopefully i can bring my son there,” added new mom Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.

The students are also being treated to an all-star concert, with Ne-yo headlining.
