‘I want to turn myself in’: Suspect in hit-and-run that killed a family

Julio Acevedo

Julio Acevedo, the man who is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident in Brooklyn that left a young couple and their premature baby dead, has been indicted.

Acevedo was indicted on the charge of leaving the scene of an accident Wednesday morning in state Supreme Court in Brooklyn. Acevedo was not present for the hearing. Additional charges against him are expected, including criminally negligent homicide in the March 3 accident.

Acevedo was allegedly speeding in a borrowed BMW sedan when he crashed his car into a livery cab that was taking the young Hasidic couple, Nachman and Raizy Glauber, to the hospital. The wife was seven months pregnant with their first child, a boy. She was experiencing pains that prompted the midnight trip  to the hospital through Williamsburg. The child was delivered through Caesarean section but later died.

Acevedo  went into hiding, ultimately turning himself in to NYPD detectives near Bethlehem, Pa., last week.
