Her name is Condola Rashad–and you better commit it to memory because this Tony-nominated performer is well on her way.   She delivered a critically-acclaimed performance opposite Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, and Phylicia Rashad in the Lifetime TV movie “Steel Magnolias.”   …And in case you were wondering, Phylicia is her mom.

The 26-year-old chatted with PIX11 Morning News co-anchor Sukanya Krishnan about her upcoming show at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan.  The singer will be rocking out to what she calls “head-banging” music tonight at 7.  It’s far cry from her training as a classical pianist and stage actress.

Rashad is currently rehearsing for the play “The Trip to Bountiful.”   The Broadway production will begin Previews March 30th–officially opening on April 23rd for a 12-week limited engagement at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.    Starring alongside Condola are veterans Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams, Tom Wopat, and Cicely Tyson.
