FLORIDA (PIX11) – He’s known as Stanley the Barbie man–and with good reason. Over the past 16 years the Florida man has collected more than 2,000 barbies, valued at roughly $80,000 total.
His collection ranges from super-hero inspired dolls, to vintage relics, worth more than $700 a pop.
“This is the #6 Barbie. She was made in 1962,” Stanley said showing off the doll to a Florida reporter. “I got it for, like, I think it was like four bucks. The lady thought it was a reproduction. I played right along. Played right along.”
The walls of Stanley’s home are lined with dolls, each in their own collectible case. But his collection doesn’t stop there. He also has Barbie corvettes, planes, even Pez heads.
“A friend of mine said, ‘What would you do if they all came to life and started banging on their cases, “Let me out! I need air”?’ He said, ‘Which one would you let out first?’ and I go, ‘The Wonder Woman.'”
Stanley says the collection is as much about how the items make you feel, as it is their actual worth.
“It is about your childhood and having beautiful things around you.”
