(Glen Head, Long Island) 4 people including an elderly couple were seriously injured in a car crash outside North Shore High School and Middle School.

Police say a 28 year old behind the wheel of a dark Lexus was driving recklessly when he hit school teacher Christopher Whalley, who was crossing Glen Cove Ave between the middle school and high school.

Then as the driver veered, he went against traffic on the avenue colliding head-on with a Volkswagen with an elderly couple inside. All four ended up in the hospital, with the driver of the Lexus flown to a hospital by helicopter, several required surgery.

Students were kept inside during the commotion and the early stages of the investigation. Faculty members updated students on the condition of the Whalley, who teaches Latin. Whalley is expected to survive.
