Detectives stood over several duffle bags and garbage bags tossed curbside in the Melrose section of the Bronx a seemingly harmless crime scene – but police say someone stuffed dismembered body parts – included a severed head – into those bags.
“Obviously, some kind of crazy psycho who would do such a thing,” said business owner George Dertinger. That person may be the victim — Tanya Byrd’s — own son. According to reports, police are now questioning the man, Bashid McLean, 23, at the 40th precinct.
Witnesses reportedly saw an unidentified person speed off from the crime scene in a silver SUV.
Barbara Womack, a friend of the victim, told Pix11’s Jay Dow, “This is what’s getting to me. It was gruesome. It was really gruesome. Nobody should have to go out like that.”
“Sometimes you see the older son bringing down his brother, you know, very respectful too. He holds the door for everybody. He’s kind…ya know, kind person,” said neighbor Annette Hernandez.
As neighbors lit candles and wrote notes in Byrd’s memory, they expressed concern for her youngest son – who they say has Down syndrome.
“He’s a good kid. There were times he couldn’t walk. She taught him how to do that. She taught him how to speak. It’s just crazy, crazy”, said Womack.
