50-year-old Thomas Weir of Monticello, New York faces  attempted sexual assault,  attempted endangering the welfare of a child and other charges.

Prosecutors say the veteran teacher who has taught at the school for about 21 years, contacted the student through instant messaging on Facebook. He is accused of offering the student who is reportedly a male, $50 in exchange for sexual acts.

Weir allegedly arranged to meet the student at a local restaurant. Detectives arrested him in the restaurant parking lot Saturday night. He is being held without bail.  If he is convicted of all charges he could get up to 40 years in jail.
