An early morning fire claimed the life of a 78-year old man and injured two others. It is the second deadly fire at the same apartment building on the same floor in less than Thirty days.
The fire broke out at 51 Ross Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn around 3:30 in the morning.
When firefighters arrived, they rushed up to the twelfth floor and found a small fire in one of the apartments. They quickly were able to put the fire out, but discovered the body of an elderly man inside, with what cops are calling severe trauma. Two others were treated for smoke inhalation.
For most of the morning the NYPD Crime Scene Unit were on the scene along with the Medical Examiner and the Fire Marshal. They have not said whether or not the fire was the actual cause of death or what the cause of the fire is at this time.
Just last month, a Seventy-Three-year old woman was found dead after she asleep smoking, and her apartment went up in flames. Ironically, her apartment was just a few doors down from this mornings fire.
The investigation is ongoing.
