One member of navy seals team 6 has already gone public, and written a book about his part in the successful raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound. But the seal who claims he fired the kill shot is speaking out, not just about the mission, but his desire to take a step back, sleep through the night, and see his children graduate. He’s finding out – his retirement, just like a mission – is filled with challenges.

The man who claims to have really fired the shots that killed Osama Bin Laden is emerging from the shadows.

And in the words of Esquire Magazine, he’s screwed.

The former Navy Seals Team 6 member is referred to simply as, “The Shooter” in the lengthy article – and he offers a dramatic, detailed account of the raid on Bin Laden’s compound…*and* his state of his life, now that he’s retired from the military.

The shooter tells Esquire he left the seals about three years shy of the mandatory retirement requirement of 20-years of service.

He says, “My health care for me and my family stopped…”

And that when he asked if there was a transition from military to private healthcare, “They said no. You’re out of the service, your coverage is over. Thanks for your sixteen years. Go **** yourself.”

Phil Bronstein wrote the article for Esquire.

“I think he has nightmares about how he’s going to support his family and how he’s going to feed his family. By the way he’s not alone. I work at the center for investigative reporting and a reporter there has reported that average way disability adjudication is 9 months. He’s no better shape than any other vet in that regard except he’s got, as you put it the nightmares but those are the nightmares, taking care of his family” , he said.

The Shooter’s actual account of the Bin Laden raid raises new questions about what really happened that night, because some of the details conflict with what we’ve already heard from the government’s official account.

The shooter says he and his point man climbed the stairs toward Bin Laden’s bedroom.

When the shooter entered the bedroom – wearing night vision goggles in the pitch black room, he was face to face with the world’s most wanted terrorist…and shot him three times in the head, even as Bin Lad shielded himself with one of his wives.

“He was very unused to this idea of shooting up. So he wasn’t prepared for somebody quite as tall – bin laden was much taller than he expected. So he talks about having to aim his gun up”, said Bronstein.

The shooter says he’s now dealing with a host of health issues. He’s lost vision, has neck problems, and essentially remains unemployed.
