Dozens of cars are trapped in heavy snow drifts on the Long Island Expressway, and officials are working to dig them out.
Suffolk County took the hardest hit from the blizzard overnight, with some area seeing 30 inches of snow.
“I’ve never seen conditions like this” on county roads, County Executive Steven Bellone told PIX11.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned Long Islanders to stay off the roads, and it wasn’t easy Saturday to get on any of those major roads anyway: the Sunrise Highway, LIE and the parkways were shuttered.
Hundreds of drivers reportedly abandoned their cars on highways and sought shelter elsewhere, Newsday reported.
