It’s one of the mega projects currently under construction by the MTA. The East Side Access Project is the biggest of the big. It will bring Long Island Rail Road passengers directly into Grand Central and the city’s eastside. Its already costing more and taking longer than first estimated.
In May, MTA officials announced a revision to the project that added more than $900 million to the $7.5 billion price tag. They said the project had been underestimated. It was originally set to be done this year. It is supposed to be ready for service in 2019.
The MTA offered media representatives a tour of the 350,000 square feet of concourses. Eight tracks will run along 6 miles of tunnels 160 feet below Park Avenue.
