According to the Centers for Disease Control, childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. PIX11 Morning News has partnered with Cohen Children`s Medical Center of New York, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, to air a week long initiative to raise awareness and empower families.

The advocacy week, airing Monday, January 7 through Friday, January 11 in the 7 am hour, will look at major health risks associated with childhood obesity and teach families how to fight this growing epidemic.

10% of all children in the United States have too much fat in their liver.  PIX11`s Ellyn Marks spoke with Dr. Michael Pettei, Chief, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Cohen Children`s Medical Center, about the increase of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease among children, which can cause inflammation and scarring on the liver.

We find out how to diagnose the condition, its symptoms and how to prevent the disease.
