In the wake of the Newtown massacre, the Union City Board of Commissioners has voted to put armed police officers in five schools in the New Jersey City.
The vote passed 3-0 with two commissioners not voting.
The officers, known as school resource officers, would be in schools for security and to lead seminars. Some of the officers would be at the schools full time.
Armed officers are already protecting schools in Marlboro Township’s school district in the Garden State.
