LONG BEACH (PIX11) – The boardwalk at Long Beach, or whatever that was left of it after Superstorm Sandy slammed into the coast, will be demolished this weekend, officials announced.
The iconic 2.2-mile boardwalk will be completely dismantled and replaced with a stronger one. The entire demolition will take about a month, officials said.
The new boardwalk will cost about $25 million and will be up and running by next summer.
In the meantime, residents are being encouraged by city officials to stop by on Saturday to say farewell to the nearly 100-year-old boardwalk before demolition begins.
