‘twas the night before christmas and all through the subway
all the creatures are stirring, yes even a rat, mouse and I think that’s a raccoon.
the trash is piled on the platform with some care
i hear fare & toll hikes soon will be there
the subway musicians are playing all songs from their heads
while free newspapers sit on benches waiting to be read
and mamma in her heels and i in my cap
better not settle down for a long winters nap
when down the tunnel there arose such a clatter
we look over to see what is the matter
away to the snack stand i fly in a flash
tear open some chips and grab a splash
the shine from the subway lit the old dark row
giving the appearance of hope to those feeling low
when what to my wandering eyes should appear
a train, out of service, and a man with a beer.
with a conductor so lively and quick
did the service announcement say a passenger was sick?
on 7 train, on g train, on J and Lexington.
somewhere yes, i’m sure there’s a Vixen.
to the tip of manhattan. to the top of the rock.
it would be faster sometimes to walk.
