Three people died on Oct. 5, 2011, when a sightseeing helicopter crashed into the East River near East  34th Street.

Today we learn the chopper was overloaded.

The National Transportation Safety Board says the Bell 206 helicopter had an estimated weight at take-off at least 28 pounds above capacity, and may have been as many as 250 pounds beyond the limit.

A final report on what caused the crash is due in two months.
