Following his 900th career win, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim decided to use his time with reporters to make a call for an assault weapon ban.

The remarks, he said, were in response to the Newtown school massacre where 26 people, including 20 children lost their lives last Friday.

“If we cannot get the people who represent us to do something about firearms, we are a sad, sad society,” Boeheim told reporters Monday night. The coach was met with applause after making the comments.
