Suffolk County lawmakers are raising concerns over expected legislation to ban the sale of energy drinks to teens.

The legislature’s Health Panel debated the issue at a meeting yesterday.

The Board of Health has recommended banning the sale of the caffeinated beverages to people under 19 because the drinks can cause rapid heartbeat and high blood pressure.

But some lawmakers expressed concern about a ban that would include 18-year-olds, who can legally smoke, vote and serve in the military.
