MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (WPIX) – NYPD detectives and Westechester police were going to investigate a possible lead on two cold case murders and instead stumbled upon a dead body.

danCops arrived at Lucia Crawford’s Beekman Street apartment in Mount Vernon Tuesday afternoon.   After they got no answer, they looked into a basement window and saw the body of a lifeless woman in bed.

Crawford was not home at the time, prompting a massive search around the neighborhood where he was later taken into custody.   He is now being questioned about the woman’s body, which was found in a bed stabbed eight times.  Reports say the body was “still warm” when police arrived on the scene.

Crawford is no stranger to police or stabbings for that matter.

In 1973, Crawford plead guilty to stabbing five women in South Carolina.  However, he was released in less than three years for good behavior.  Less than a year after he is released, Crawford stabbed four women in a five day spree and was found guilty.  In that case, he served 24 years in jail and was then released.

In 1994, Crawford made the move to Yonkers.  In less than a year of arriving, he was charged with attempted murder of a woman who refused to date him.   He served 13 years in Sing Sing and was released in 2008 when he promised to clean up his act.

So much for that.

Mount Vernon police have not yet charged him with murder in this case and have not released the identity of the victim at this time.
