TV personality Jene Luciani, author of the “Bra Book,” uncovers the secret to finding a bra fevery body type and also explains the “fashion formula” for finding the right bra
• The fashion formula for finding the perfect bra for you starts with fit! I recommend a fitting at least every 6 mos to a year because our bodies are constantly changing – especially if you’ve gained or lost weight, you’ve recently been pregnant, gone through menopause, or anything else that could change your breasts. It’s fine to go to a department or specialty store for a fitting, but you should understand HOW the measuring process works and WHY it works that way so you aren’t just relying on the salesperson to tell you what looks and feels good.
• Bra fit is based on 2 measurements – the band measurement – wrapping the tape measure (the sewing kind, not the kind in your husband’s tool box!) just below your bust and record that #. The 2nd is wrapping the tape measure around the FULLEST part of your bust (in a bra is fine) and then record that #. Once you have the 2 numbers, you subtract one from the other to get your BRA SIZE. So if you are a 34″ around the ribcage, and then 39″ around the bust, you are a 34 DD. It’s not an exact science, but there is a science to it! So you want to use that size as a GUIDELINE when you hit the stores.
• The second part of the formula is fashion – knowing what styles of bra look best on you, and what bra goes under what – there are so many varieties to choose from! That leads me to the next point – buying bras based on your body type. Not every woman can or should wear every style.
