5-year-old girl shot in the Bronx; ‘I’m OK,” brave child says

 THE BRONX (PIX11) —  Five-year-old Hailey Dominguez was on her way home from a family baby shower when she was shot in the stomach by a stray bullet early Sunday morning, police said.

“I’m OK,” neighbors quoted the girl as saying after she was shot, without a tear falling.

An 18-year-old man has since been arrested in her shooting and charged with attempted murder, WNBC reports.

The man, identified as Angel Morales, was placed in police custody late Sunday.

According to authorities, the child was outside the courtyard of her apartment building around 1 a.m. on Hughes Avenue in the Tremont Section when she was shot.

Little Hailey was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital then brought to Columbia Presbyterian, where she was listed in stable condition after being put into an induced coma.

Neighbor Janet Flores who does not speak English but says she woke up to a loud noise. Police have been talking to family members looking for clues.

There are several cameras around the building and it is possible they tell a better understanding of what happened.
